Anadolu Agency's Jerusalem office will make the voice and plight of Palestine and the disputed city heard all across the world in multiple languages, AA Director-General and Board Chairman Kemal Ozturk said Monday.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the agency's Jerusalem bureau, Ozturk said the new office was "the most meaningful and significant" of all the 24 offices the Anadolu Agency had opened outside of Turkey.
"I hope that one day Anadolu Agency will broadcast news of peace and freedom from this region," he said.
Launched as part of the agency's bid to become one of the five most influential wire services in the world, AA's Jerusalem office is set to become one of the most important news gathering hubs of the Middle East.
"The opening of the Anadolu Agency office in Jerusalem will strengthen the relations between Palestine and Turkey," Turkey’s Ambassador in Jerusalem Mustafa Sarnıc said.
The ceremony was also attended by Turkey's head of chamber unions, Rifat Hisarciklioglu, and members of the new bureau's editorial staff.
AA plans to provide news in 11 languages by 2020. It currently broadcasts in Turkish, Arabic, English, Bosnian-Serbian-Croatian, Russian, Kurdish, and French languages.
