JERUSALEM
A high-level Israeli security delegation is currently in Cairo for talks with Egyptian officials on the possibility of reaching a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, according to the Israeli Radio.
The Israeli delegation is made up of chief of the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) Yoram Cohen, Director of the Political-Military Affairs Bureau at Israel's Defense Ministry Amos Gilad, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s personal envoy Yitzhak Molcho, the Israeli Radio reported.
According to the report, the Israeli delegation is also holding "indirect talks" with representatives from the Palestinian factions.
The Egyptian authorities are yet to comment on the reported visit, as the radio gave no details about the delegation's visit agenda.
Israeli warplanes have been pounding the Gaza Strip since July 7 with the stated aim of halting rocket fire from the besieged coastal enclave.
At least 227 Palestinians, meanwhile, mostly civilians, have been killed in the Israeli airstrikes.
More than 1680 Palestinians have also been injured, many seriously, by the Israeli aerial attacks by Israel.
Gaza-based resistance factions, meanwhile, have continued to fire rockets at Israel – some of which have reached Tel Aviv – in response to the deadly air offensive.
