JERUSALEM
The Israeli army said Tuesday it shelled two sites run by Shiite Hezbollah group in southern Lebanon after a bomb attack left two Israeli soldiers slightly wounded near the border.
The Israeli army "responded to [improvised explosive device] IED attack with artillery at 2 Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon," military spokesman Peter Lerner tweeted.
"The Lebanese government and Hezbollah are directly responsible for this blatant breach of Israel's sovereignty," he added.
He went on to describe the attack as an "unprovoked aggression" against the Israeli forces and vowed the army will "continue to operate to maintain safety of northern Israel."
Earlier in the day, the army said two troops were slightly injured on Tuesday in a blast near the border with Lebanon.
Army spokesman Avichay Adraee said on his Twitter account that the blast targeted an Israeli patrol in Shebaa farms near the border, asserting that the two troops suffered slight wounds.
A source with the Israeli army told AA that the troops found and detonated another explosive charge near the border and asserted it caused no casualties or damage.
A Lebanese security source, meanwhile, said that the Israeli opened artillery fire at Lebanese territory across the border towards Kfarchouba village, moments after the bomb attack.
The source, however, did not say whether the shelling left any casualties or damage.
