ISTANBUL
According to a report released by the Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR), 191 people have been killed, and 2,500 kidnapped in Syria by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) militants, since June 2013.
Those killed include, 21 children, six women, and seven media members, according to the report. SNHR also said that the ISIL has stepped up its violent attacks since January this year, during which, it has killed 149 people; 11 children, five women, and five media members.
The report said that a number of these killings occurred when a Free Syrian Army (FSA) group was sent to ISIL headquarters in Aleppo to discuss possible ceasefire negotiations. Instead, ISIL opened fire on the FSA group killing all of the members.
The report claims that another incident involved ISIL fighters executing 50 detainees at a children's hospital-turned ISIL headquarters on January 8.
ISIL has been accused by the Syrian opposition of attempting to hijack the resistance against the Assad regime in Syria.
