ANBAR
Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant militants have killed 75 people and taken 125 others hostage in the central Iraqi city of Ramadi in Anbar Governorate, a tribal source said on Sunday.
The El-Bunimer Sunni tribe leader, Sheikh Naim el-Kaud, told The Anadolu Agency that he was concerned about the fate of the 125 hostages, among whom are many women and children.
Kaud requested an immediate intervention of the Iraqi central government to keep the city, "or else we will lose Ramadi," he said.
Moreover, a car bomb attack on an Ashura convoy in Iraq's capital, Baghdad, left seven dead and 25 wounded, an Iraqi official has said.
No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack and officers said the bodies have not been formally identified.
Since mid-June, fighting in Iraq has been pitting the Iraqi army and Kurdish peshmerga forces against ISIL militants, who have taken control of Mosul, Iraq's second largest city.
ISIL is currently in control of large swathes of territory in Iraq and Syria.
The U.S. is leading an international coalition, which includes France, Germany, and Saudi Arabia, among others, and has carried out numerous airstrikes against ISIL in Iraq and Syria.
According to the UN, an estimated 1.8 million citizens have been internally displaced this year throughout Iraq.
