The NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) soldier died Saturday in a suicide attack in Afghanistan, ISAF said in a written statement.

The attack took place in the eastern part of the country, the statement said, giving no further details on the identity of the soldier.

Early in the morning, six Taliban militants were also killed in an attack on NATO-Afghan military base in Nangarhar province of Afghanistan in the east of the country, spokesman of the office of Nangarhar governor Ahmad Ziya Abdulzai told the Anadolu Agency.

"Five suicide attackers tried to get into the base after an explosive-laden vehicle was blasted just outside the base," he said, "Taliban militants were killed by NATO and Afghan forces."

Taliban spokesperson, on the other hand, claimed responsibility for the attack saying a number of Afghan and foreign soldiers were killed in the attack.

In two separate blasts in the country, three policemen died in Nangarhar on Saturday while four intelligence officials were killed in Khost province when an explosive placed on the roadside blasted.
