WASHINGTON
The US House of Representatives approved Thursday a budget deal in a 332-94 vote, which could prevent a government shutdown on Jaunary 15.
The two-year deal will curb automatic spending cuts, or sequestration, by approximately $63 billion, and will reduce the deficit by around $23 billion over two years. Additionally, federal spending will be set at $1 trillion in 2014, with a slight bump in 2015.
The Senate is expected to vote on the proposed budget next week.
If approved by the Senate, the agreement would mark the first time that the US legislature has been able to pass a budget under normal procedure in three years.
