ATHENS
A gang of four people on motorcycles have attacked the Israeli embassy in Athens, spraying the building with bullets from Kalashnikov rifles - a weapon favored by Greek anarchist militant groups.
Unidentified assailants riding on the moving bikes opened fire with two Kalashnikovs in the early hours of Friday, police said.
Visiting the scene in the Athens suburb of Psychiko, Public Order Minister Vassilis Kikilias said: "No one will disturb our relations with Israel."
"We unequivocally condemn the gun attack which took place at dawn today at the Israeli Embassy in Psychiko," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Scores of AK-47 assault rifle bullet casings were recovered outside the embassy on a busy road junction.
Police are scrutinizing footage from security cameras sited as the embassy and surrounding businesses in an effort to identify the perpetrators.
Nobody claimed responsibility for the attack which occurred before the building opened up for the day.
The attack resembles a raid on the German ambassador’s residence in Athens in December 2013.
The left-wing militant group Popular Fighters claimed responsibility for the attack last year, in which no one was injured.
