BERLIN
Germany's armed forces, the Bundeswehr, has started training Kurdish peshmerga fighters at an army college in Hammelburg, Bavaria.
A spokesperson for the German Defense Ministry on Sunday said that 32 Kurdish peshmerga fighters would be trained in the use of anti-tank missiles.
Germany has been giving support to Kurdish fighters as peshmerga forces battle against Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant extremists in Syria and Iraq.
On Thursday, Germany sent 25 tons of cargo, including 50 bazookas and ammunition, 520 G3 rifles and 20 MG3 machine guns.
According to the defense ministry, a second plane carrying weapons, equipment and vehicles has arrived in Erbil, northern Iraq.
By the end of the operation, Germany anticipates around 10,000 Kurdish fighters will be equipped with around 70 million euros’ [$88.7 million] worth of weapons from Bundeswehr stocks.
