BERLIN
The German government is currently blocking the export of arms to Russia, the Ministry of Economy announced in a written statement on Thursday.
The Ministry of Economy replied to the inquiry of the Green Parliamentary Group on Thursday, and said, "Due to the current political situation, no permits for the export of arms to Russia are currently being granted."
According to the Ministry, since April 8th, 69 applications for the granting of export licenses for military equipment to Russia were in the approval process. The total value of the applications were 5.18 million euros.
None of the applications were related to weapons of war, which include tanks, machine guns, combat aircraft or missiles. Instead, the applications relate exclusively to so-called other military equipment. These include handguns, ammunition, torpedoes, NBC protection equipment, military electronics and infrared or thermal imaging equipment.
In March, Economy Minister Sigmar Gabriel had initially halted the export of a combat training facility to Russia.
