Georgia open to renewing US partnership, says prime minister

ISTANBUL

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday said that a “hostile act” against the Georgian people and state has failed, adding that his government is ready to renew the strategic partnership with the US and is awaiting the Donald Trump administration’s response.

Speaking to journalists, Kobakhidze said: “We want to renew the strategic partnership, the partnership that (former US President Joe) Biden and his administration canceled shortly before Trump’s inauguration. This is our desire, the rest depends on the decision of the Trump administration.”

He stressed that Tbilisi remains “completely open” to relations with Washington and will base further discussions on the US administration’s position.

“For us, it is important to restore this partnership, and we are absolutely ready to do so,” he said.
