JERUSALEM
A rocket fired from the Gaza Strip struck Tel Aviv on Monday for the first time since July 7 when Israel unleashed its ongoing offensive on the blockaded Palestinian territory.
"A rocket fired from Gaza hit the Tel Aviv area," the Israeli army said on its Twitter account.
No casualties were reported.
Gaza-based Palestinian resistance factions have fired hundreds of rockets at Israeli cities, including Tel Aviv, for the last two weeks.
But all earlier rockets fired at Tel Aviv had been intercepted by the Iron Dome defense system.
At least 509 Palestinians have been killed and more than 3150 injured in unrelenting Israeli attacks on besieged coastal enclave since July 7.
The military operation, dubbed operation "Protective Edge," is the self-proclaimed Jewish state's third major offensive against Gaza in the last six years.
