BEIJING
At least 21 miners have been killed due to a gas blast in a coal mine in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, says regional officials.
Xinhua news agency reported that 22 miners had been trapped after the gas blast early Friday.
While one of the 22 miners has been rescued, other 21 have been killed due to the blast, Xinhua reported.
The incident is under investigation, said officials who refused to give detailed information.
China is the world's largest coal consumer where the occupational work accidents are still a big problem.
1,384 people had been killed in coal mine accidents in China in 2012, according to official figures.
