French President Francois Hollande has vowed that he would not seek a second term in 2017 if he failed to decrease unemployment by that time.
Francois Hollande -- according to polls, the most unpopular president in France's history -- was speaking on French private TV channel TF1 Thursday evening to mark the halfway point in his five-year term.
"If I do not succeed in the end of my term to bring down unemployment, do you think I will be able to stand in front of the French? The French will be unyielding and they will be right," he said.
The number of jobless has reached a historic 3.4 million in the country.
Hollande has also acknowledged he "made mistakes" by predicting a "reversal of the unemployment curve" for 2013 and not accomplishing it.
With a historic low rating of 13 percent and a majority of surveyed French people believing he has failed his mission, Hollande is struggling to finish his mandate and his candidacy in 2017 is now doubtful, even in his own party.
