An international arrest warrant has been granted for Ukraine's former president and the former interior minister over allegations of willful murder in the deadly crackdown on protestors, Ukraine's chief public prosecutor said in a press conference on Wednesday.
Oleh Makhnytsky, the chief prosecutor, said the Ukrainian security service and the interior ministry were searching to locate Viktor Yanukovych, the ousted president, and Vitaly Zakharchenko, the former interior minister.
More than 80 people were killed after a crackdown by security forces on anti-government protestors in the Independence Square of Kiev.
Yanukovych fled his presidential residence late Friday and his whereabouts remain unknown.
Ukrainian parliament voted to impeach Yanukovych and set the elections on May 25.
Makhnytsky also said the case on Yulia Tymoshenko, the main opposition-figure, would be closed if the inquiry proves her innocence. The jailed former prime minister was released after a vote in parliament on last Saturday.
Tymoshenko, imprisoned in August 2011, was convicted and sentenced to seven years in jail for abusing her powers as prime minister by ordering Ukrainian Naftogaz to sign a gas deal with Russia in 2009.
