The life imprisonment sentence handed to former Chinese minister of trade and governor of Liaoning province Bo Xilai on charges of bribery, corruption and abuse of power has been upheld by a Chinese higher court.
The Shandong Higher People's Court refused Xilai's appeal of the September 22 sentencing by the Intermediate People's Court in capital Jinan of Shandong province, according to Xinhua news agency.
Xilai came to fore in a case that was set in motion by his wife's poisoning of British business associate Neil Heywood in late 2011. Bo's wife Gu Kailai, who later confessed to having poisoned Heywood over business conflicts, received suspended death sentence on August 20, 2012.
