ANKARA (AA) - Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has held a phone call with his French counterpart Laurent Fabius.
Their dialogue on Friday focused on the recent diplomatic move to strip Syria of its chemical weapons, diplomatic sources said.
They said the leaders jointly welcomed the initiative, tabled earlier this week by Russia, which involves the Syrian government placing its chemical weapons program under international control.
Davutoglu and Fabius said, however, that the initiative did not eliminate the necessity of finding a solution to the crisis in Syria.
The two leaders urged for immediate and effective steps towards ending the long-going bloodshed in the Middle East country.
The United Nations says the civil war killed over 100,000 Syrians, turned two million into refugees in neighboring states, and left more than one-third of the population in need of humanitarian aid.
