BRUSSELS
A politician from the far-right Sweden Democrats resigned from the party on Wednesday after being linked to a stash of dynamite found on the country’s west coast, local media reported.
The politician, whose identity was not revealed under Swedish privacy laws, is suspected of being part of a group in possession of 550 kilograms (1,200 pounds) of dynamite in Halland province, the Hallands Nyheter newspaper said.
The TT news agency said the politician was arrested on Friday after police found a bag of blasting caps in a car but was later released.
On Tuesday, police arrested a 30-year-old man, said to be a self-proclaimed Nazi, after they allegedly found dynamite inside his house in Falkenberg, Halland. The Aftonbladet newspaper, citing sources close to the suspect, said he had bragged he would become “greater than Anders Breivik”.
Far-right fanatic Brevik murdered 77 people in attacks in Oslo and on the island of Utoya in July 2011.
The anti-immigration Sweden Democrats became "kingmakers" in the Swedish parliament after winning nearly 13 percent of votes in last September’s election.
