SINAI (AA) – An Egyptian policeman was killed on Friday in a militant attack in North Sinai, a security source said.
The source said the Central Security Forces officer was shot dead while driving his car in Arish's Al-Mesaed district.
Meanwhile, on the Sheikh Zuweid-Goura Road, an explosive charge went off as military armored vehicles passed nearby.
Unidentified "militants" have stepped up attacks on police and army targets since the July 3 ouster of elected President Mohamed Morsi by Egypt's powerful military establishment.
Scores of police and army personnel have since been killed, according to Egypt's military-backed government.
The Egyptian army is currently carrying out what military experts are calling the largest military operation in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula in recent history, with the stated aim of combating "militancy and terrorism."
