An independent candidate in the presidential vote in Egypt has said that he had filed a formal application to supreme election committee to cancel the election due to fraud.
Talking to the press on Monday in Cairo, independent candidate Abdul Moneim Aboul Fotouh said many people had voted despite their names were not on the lists as well as numerous military personnel, who are not allowed to vote in the election.
"Even if we finish the first party in the voting, we could not say it was a clean election," stated Fotouh.
Fotouh said he was not sure about supporting Mohammad Mursi, the leader of Muslim Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party, in the second round of the Egypt's first ever democratic presidential elections on June 16-17.
Fotouh had received 17.6 percent of the votes in the first round of the elections, placing fourth in the election.
According to the latest results, leader of Muslim Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party Mohammed Mursi is in the first place, while former Prime Minister under Mubarek Ahmed Shafiq is in the second in the first round.
The new president of Egypt will be made public on June 21 and take over the office on July 1.
The Election Commission had estimated the turnout at 50 percent. The election had lasted two days, and the polls had closed on Thursday evening.
