TEHRAN
An earthquake measuring 7.5 on the Richter Scale hit Iran's Zahedan city on Tuesday.
Iran's official news agency, IRNA, reported that the earthquake took place at 15.14 hours local time in Sistan and Balouchestan province in southeast of the country.
The epicenter of the quake was located 81 kilometers away from the town of Saravan.
Iran's national TV channel reported that at least 46 people were killed in the earthquake.
Iranian officials have not yet made any statements on possible casualties and property damage in Tuesday's earthquake.
Turkish aid organizations ready to assist earthquake-hit Iran
Meanwhile, Turkish Prime Ministry Disaster and Emergency Management Directorate (AFAD) and Turkish Red Crescent Aid Society (Kizilay) have announced they were ready to dispatch relief teams if Iran made a call on the international community to assist them after south-eastern Iran was hit by a powerful earthquake on Tuesday.
Turkish Red Crescent informed the Iranian Red Crescent that Turkey was ready to provide humanitarian assistance to the victims of the Iranian earthquake.
Turkish Ambassador in Tehran Umit Yardim also said they informed Iranian authorities about Turkey's readiness to extend assistance after a powerful earthquake.
Ambassador Yardim indicated that the region of earthquake was far from Iranian capital of Tehran and that Iranian authorities did not yet make any definite statements on possible casualties.
"Around 90 thousand Iranians live in the region where the earthquake took place. There were no Turkish citizens living in the region of the earthquake according to our records," Yardim also said.
