Heavy clashes erupted in Hamburg on December 21 over the eviction of a left wing cultural center in the city. Around 7,000 people protested the eviction of Rote Flora Cultural Center, which had been occupied by the left-wing activists since 1989 and had served as a meeting point for them. 70 police officers and a number of protesters were injured in the clashes.
"The establishment of the danger zone pursued the goal by the extended control powers for the police to prevent crime of considerable importance in the field," the statement said.
The police noted that the positive trend continued in recent days in modified risk areas and that no police officers were attacked.
The Hamburg police on January 4 set up "danger zones" in the districts Altona, St. Pauli and Schanze as a reaction to the protests.
