LEFKOSA (AA) - No progress has been achieved so far in the decades-old UN-backed talks between Turkish and Greek Cypriot leaders but Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Dervis Eroglu said that they wanted the Cyprus issue to be resolved by 2014.
"We, as the Turkish side would like to resolve the Cyprus issue within this year or next year by continuing the negotiations in good faith and want to take the issue off the agenda," Eroglu told in his speech after a meeting in Lefkosa.
Talks were stalled since January 2012 due to postponements made by Greek Cypriot administration for various reasons and no progress has been made so far in the UN-backed talks between Turkish and Greek Cypriot leaders.
Stating that Greek side always wanted to win time by putting forward impossible demands, Eroglu said, "The issue will be resolved, if the Greek side will come to the negotiation table in a good faith."
Northern Cyprus president also stressed the importance of a deal, which will guarentee the future of Turkish Cypriots.
