NEW YORK
A man armed with an axe and pepper spray was shot dead by police after attacking people in a cinema in Tennessee, according to U.S. media reports.
Vincente David Montano, 29, was killed on Wednesday as he tried to escape through a rear exit of Carmike Hickory 8 cinema in the Nashville suburb of Antioch, CNN said.
He was reportedly brandishing a hatchet, a replica pistol and pepper spray, which he released during the screening of action film Mad Max: Fury Road.
Police spokesman Don Aaron told reporters that the man had "significant" psychological issues and had been committed to a mental institution four times.
"We have no motive for [the attack]," Aaron said, adding that one patron at the screening of the film suffered a minor axe wound before officers killed the attacker.
Aaron also said Montano had been reported missing Monday.
The attack came two weeks after a 58-year-old gunman opened fire inside a cinema in Louisiana, killing two people and injuring seven before taking his own life.
U.S. jurors are also deliberating on whether a Colorado man who killed 12 people and wounded 79 during a Batman film screening in 2012 should receive the death penalty.
