Chinese student who poisoned roommate gets death sentence

SHANGHAI 

A medical graduate student, who poisoned his roommate to death in March last year, was sentenced to death on Tuesday by Shanghai No 2 Intermediate People’s Court. 

Lin Senhao, who was studying for his master’s degree at Fudan University’s Shanghai Medical School, was convicted of intentional homicide after poisoning the water at his dormitory’s drinking machine by injecting a toxic compound in March 2013.

Lin’s roommate and fellow student, Huang Yang, was poisoned after drinking the water, and died from multiple organ failure two weeks later.

The court said Lin poisoned Huang out of hatred, after the latter was accepted into the post-graduate program. Lin was forced to leave for personal reasons.
