BEIJING
Fifteen people were injured when gas from a pool loaded with excrement ignited in a Chinese city at the weekend, causing it to explode.
The blast brought down an abandoned residential building and damaged four others, according to the country's official news agency.
Xinhua reported that the incident happened after a man began burning waste outside of his house, near the cesspool, in Yongding District on Saturday.
Police told the agency that the flames ignited methane from the pit, causing the blast. The house has been abandoned since 2006.
The 15 people injured were hospitalized, while local residents affected by the blast were resettled.
