Bus collision kills 15 in Bangladesh

DHAKA, Bangladesh

A collision between two buses killed at least 15 people, including the drivers, Sunday morning, in northern Bangladesh, officials said.

The crash occurred west of Bangabandhu bridge -- Bangladesh’s biggest bridge on the Jamuna river which runs north to south across the country. One of the buses was traveling to capital Dhaka and the other was going in the opposite direction.

Local police inspector Helal Uddin told Anadolu Agency on the phone that 12 people had died on the spot, three en route to the hospital and that more than 50 had been injured.

All injured passengers were admitted into different hospital and clinics in Sirajganj district.

An investigation has been launched to determine the causes of the accident.

The accident happened a day after of Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan, when millions head back home from Dhaka to celebrate with family.
