The African Union says it has approved the deployment of an election monitoring group to Uganda ahead of Feb. 18 polls.
The observers will monitor the East African country’s presidential, parliamentary and local council elections, the commission confirmed in a statement.
A 40-strong mission will be headed by Justice Sophia A.B. Akuffo, a member of Ghana’s Supreme Court.
The AU observers will be deployed from Feb. 10-22 to observe voting, counting and the announcement of election results.
