ISMAILIA (AA) – Five Egyptian army personnel, including one officer, were killed on Monday in an armed attack on their patrol in the northeastern Suez Canal city of Ismailia.
Security sources told Anadolu Agency that one soldier had been critically wounded in the attack, which they described as the "strongest" to have been seen in Ismailia.
The canal city has witnessed mounting tensions since the July 3 ouster of elected president Mohamed Morsi by Egypt's military establishment.
No more details were available about the attack, which came hours after Egypt celebrated on Sunday the 40th anniversary of its 1973 October war victory over Israel.
Egyptian police, military forces and facilities have been repeatedly targeted since Morsi's ouster, particularly in Egypt's restive Sinai Peninsula.
