LUHANSK, Ukraine
A total of 44 people have been killed in armed battles between Ukrainian troops and pro-Russian rebels in the last twenty-four hours, according to Luhansk City Council late on Friday.
According to a statement issued by the council's press office, one child was among the dead and 215 others were wounded in eastern Ukraine.
Since yesterday, 49 flats and 195 detached houses were destroyed along with 12 kindergartens, five factories, 18 shops and three supermarkets.
The statement also revealed there were not enough medical staff - doctors and nurses to attend to the wounded.
Tension continues to remain high as pro-Russian separatists in the eastern part of Ukraine declared their intention to break away from Kiev in March, which claimed around 500 lives so far.
