At least 33 Taliban insurgents were killed while nearly 30 others were wounded in clashes that erupted in Afghanistan on Friday.
Officials in the eastern Laghman province said five Taliban fighters were killed and seven injured when they attacked several outposts between the Alingar district and provincial capital Mehterlam Baba.
"The fighting lasted one hour and additional Afghan forces were sent to assist repelled the Taliban attack. The bodies were abandoned where they fell," provincial governor spokesman Sarhadi Zawak told The Anadolu Agency.
In eastern Khost Province, around 250 Taliban militants attacked frontier police posts in the early hours of Friday, said a statement released by provincial office.
"At least 25 Taliban insurgents were killed and five injured. At least two police officers were killed, while five others injured," the statement added.
In late April the Taliban began intensifying its attacks as part of its spring offensive.
The most intense fighting has been in the Kunduz province with both sides claiming that hundreds have been killed.
