Turkey: Police officers gunned down

DIYARBAKIR, Turkey

A policeman has been killed and a colleague wounded in a gun attack in Turkey’s southeastern city of Diyarbakir.

The two officers, Tansu Aydin and Ali Karahan, came under fire while investigating a road accident in the Sehitlik area on Thursday.

According to the statement made by Diyarbakir Governor’s Office, two masked terrorists aged 20-25 performed the attack by a pistol in close range.

Aydin was shot in the head and died, while Karahan, who was shot in the foot and groin, is currently receiving treatment, the statement said.

Police are investigating the incident, which comes after the murder of two policemen on Wednesday and a deadly suicide bombing in Suruc on Monday which killed at least 32 people.

Both incidents took place in Turkey’s southeastern Sanliurfa province, near the Syrian border.
