Turkish communications chief condemns 'direct armed conflict' after joint US-Israel attack on Iran
‘The developments threaten not only the countries involved, but also stability and the safety of civilians across a wide region,’ says Burhanettin Duran
ISTANBUL
The recent escalation between the US, Israel and Iran has turned into "a direct armed conflict" and affected other countries in the region, which is "unacceptable," the Turkish communications chief said on Saturday.
"The ongoing developments threaten not only the countries involved, but also stability and the safety of civilians across a wide region. In this context, dialogue and negotiation mechanisms must be urgently reactivated," Burhanettin Duran warned in a post on US social media company X.
He underlined that Türkiye has always stood in favor of lasting peace, regional stability, and the pursuit of solutions based on international law.
Ankara will continue to fulfill its responsibilities to de-escalate tensions, protect civilians, and ensure the effective use of diplomatic channels, he said.
He further noted state institutions are closely monitoring developments in the region and taking measures to ensure the safety of Turkish citizens.
The Turkish official urged the public to be vigilant, particularly on digital platforms, to avoid unverified claims and to rely on statements from official institutions.
The US and Israel launched a joint attack on Iran early Saturday, claiming it was meant to remove “threats” posed by the Iranian “regime.”
Separate video statements were released by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump, which also hinted at supporting efforts for a change in government in Tehran.
Iran termed the strikes a violation of sovereignty and launched retaliatory strikes.
