Victims will start moving to container cities (container homes placed in large spaces) in Adiyaman, one of the 11 southern Turkish provinces struck by the devastating Feb. 6 earthquakes, from Thursday, the Turkish transport and infrastructure has said.

"We have prepared the infrastructure for most of the container homes," Adil Karaismailoglu told Anadolu. "Mobility will begin from tomorrow."

In the first stage 15,000 homes will be established, he said, adding that the government is also working on constructing prefabricated homes.

Meanwhile, he informed that nearly 3,000 Turkish citizens are staying in dormitories affiliated with the Higher Education Credit and Hostels Institution (KYK) in Adiyaman.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said that Türkiye will begin constructing more than 200,000 homes as early as March in areas devastated by the twin earthquakes, and complete the process within a year.

More than 42,000 people have died in the two strong earthquakes that jolted southern Türkiye on Feb. 6, according to the country’s disaster management agency.
