Police arrest 19 Daesh/ISIS terror suspects in Istanbul
Arrests made in simultaneous operations at 20 locations across Türkiye's megacity
At least 19 suspects linked to the Daesh/ISIS terror group were arrested in Istanbul, Turkish security sources said on Monday.
The arrests were made in simultaneous operations at 20 locations across the megacity as local anti-terrorism teams started to track down 20 suspects, according to the sources who requested anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to the media.
The remaining suspect is sought by the police, the sources added.
In 2013, Türkiye became one of the first countries to declare Daesh/ISIS a terrorist group.
The country has since been attacked by the terror group multiple times, with over 300 people killed and hundreds more injured in at least 10 suicide bombings, seven bomb attacks, and four armed assaults.
In response, Türkiye launched anti-terror operations at home and abroad to prevent further attacks.
