Low US tariffs on Türkiye positive: Turkish vice president Cevdet Yilmaz

ANKARA

US tariffs on Türkiye, which is at the lowest rate compared to other countries, is positive, the Turkish vice president said Wednesday.

Cevdet Yilmaz said there is a decline in commodity prices due to the tariffs and the price drops are also good for Türkiye which is an importer country.

"In this respect, we can say that the picture is in our favor as of now," Yilmaz said at a news conference in Ankara.

Yilmaz said Türkiye and the US have a trade volume of more than $32 billion, however, there is a target of $100 billion.

"I can say that our minister of trade will meet with his US counterparts and discuss both these developments and how we can increase Türkiye-US trade, how we can increase its volume more intensively in the coming period," he added.

US President Donald Trump announced new tariffs on April 2 with the rate for Türkiye at 10%, while many countries saw higher rates, including China topping the list at 34% and the EU at 20%.
