A wanted PKK terrorist was arrested in an anti-terror operation in Istanbul, the Interior Ministry said on Monday.

As part of coordinated efforts by police in Istanbul and eastern Bingol provinces, the terrorist – identified as Sonuc Gurdegir, code-named Rodi Cevlik – was found to be hiding at a residence in the Atasehir district, the ministry said in a statement.

Gurdegir, a senior PKK member in charge of the eastern Erzurum province, is on the orange category of the Interior Ministry’s wanted list, the statement added.

The wanted list is divided into five color-coded categories, with red as the most wanted, followed by blue, green, orange and gray.

According to the statement, the terrorist was involved in the killing of two security personnel while injuring the Bingol police chief and his bodyguard on Oct. 4, 2014.

The terrorist was also involved in the killing of seven police officers while injuring three other officers in a car bombing in Bingol on Aug. 1, 2016.

In its more than 35-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK – listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US, and the EU – has been responsible for the deaths of at least 40,000 people, including women, children, and infants.
