ANKARA
Cuneyt Arcayurek, a columnist for daily Cumhuriyet, has died at the age of 87 due to multiple organ failure in Ankara, it was announced Tuesday.
Arcayurek was under treatment at the Ankara Medicana International Hospital. He died because of multiple organ failure, Gülay Kilic, chief physician at the hospital, said in a statement.
The Turkish journalist was born in 1928 in Ankara. He started his journalism career at the Ulus (the Nation) newspaper of the Republican People's Party (CHP). During his long journalism career, he worked with several Turkish newspapers, including the dailies Hurriyet and Milliyet.
He was also a former adviser to Turkey's ninth president, Suleyman Demirel, who recently died on June 17 of heart failure at the age of 91.
