Afghanistan's embassy in Turkey has slammed Thursday's bomb attack which killed two people, including a Turkish soldier, in the Afghan capital Kabul.

The embassy said: "We strongly condemn this heinous attack that caused the death of a Turkish soldier and injured another."

Afghan security forces are investigating the incident and they are "sure that the perpetrators will be brought to justice," the embassy said.

The attack hit a special team protecting Ambassador Ismail Aramaz, NATO's Senior Civilian Representative in the country, the Turkish General Staff announced in a statement.

The Taliban have claimed responsibility for the attack but said the Turkish convoy was not the intended target.

"The target was [a] U.S. military convoy," purported Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, said on Twitter.

Afghan officials also confirmed the attack, adding that an Afghan passerby had been killed.

Turkish army sources in the region said the wounded sergeant is being treated at Bagram NATO base hospital and that he is recovering.

No announcement has been made regarding the identities of the victims.
