ISTANBUL
Turkish police on Thursday detained 12 people, believed to have connections with a youth branch of the outlawed Revolutionary People's Liberation Party/Front, or DHKP/C, in Istanbul.
In an early morning raid, counterterror police forced their way into an apartment building in Istanbul's Okmeydani district, breaking down the iron door grills and sprayed tear gas on suspects who tried to block officers from entering the house.
Police officials said some of suspects tried to destroy documents and several other documents were seized during the search at the house.
The left-wing terrorist group had claimed responsibility for a February 1 suicide bomb attack on the US Embassy in Turkey's capital, Ankara.
The attack targeting a checkpoint on the perimeter of the embassy compound killed a security guard and wounded a Turkish journalist.
