Security forces seized ammunition and materials used for making explosives in an operation against the PKK terror group in southeastern Turkey, a local authority announced on Thursday.
The ammunition cache was seized Wednesday by the local gendarmerie forces in the rural area of Hakkari's Semdinli district, said a statement by the governor's office.
Among the seized materials were mortar and anti-tank rocket launcher ammunition, 47 docka anti-aircraft ammunition, 17 mortar ammunition instantaneous fuses, and 25 kilograms (55 pounds) of ammonium nitrate.
The efforts to "decipher and prevent the activities of the separatist terrorist organization" continue in the region, the statement added.
In its more than 35-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK – listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US, and EU – has been responsible for the deaths of 40,000 people, including women, children and infants.Anadolu Agency website contains only a portion of the news stories offered to subscribers in the AA News Broadcasting System (HAS), and in summarized form.
