The Turkish lira hit record lows on Friday. The lira was buying $0.37, a record low on Friday afternoon. The lira has lost more than 11 percent of its value against the dollar since January 2015.
“12 years’ trough,” said the newspaper adding that euro dollar parity remained under 1.07 first time in 12 years due to European Central Bank bond purchases.
Economic newspaper DUNYA said that Turkey was watching Basci’s briefing to Erdogan while Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said there was “harmony” between the government and the Central Bank.
Turkish dailies also covered Davutoglu’s remarks on Tuesday at a parliamentary group meeting of his Justice and Development, or AK, Party.
SABAH quoted Davutoglu as saying: “peace process is entrusted to mothers” referring to ongoing talks between the Turkish government and the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party to end a decades-old conflict over Kurdish rights.
Davutoglu told reporters in Ankara: “There is no split in opinion between me and the president,” referring to the Hakan Fidan case – where the former Turkish spy chief was reappointed to his previous post in the country’s intelligence service.
Fidan had resigned and announced his candidacy for the ruling AK Party at the country’s upcoming general elections in June.
