Turkish dailies covered Tuesday Turkish court's final verdicts over Ergenekon trial in which 275 defendants including army officers, lawyers, academics and journalists were sentenced, and Fenerbahce-Salzburg second leg game in the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round on August 6.

Verdicts in the Ergenekon Trial

All of the dailies covered on Tuesday Turkish court's final verdicts over Ergenekon trial in which 254 defendants including army officers, lawyers, academics and journalists were sentenced. Daily MILLIYET headlined "The Wave of Punishment" and published that announcement of the verdicts lasted more than 2 hours, 21 of 275 defendants were acquitted while the rest was sentenced heavy punishment. Daily STAR titled "Life imprisonment to Deep State" by saying that Turkish court issued heavy sentences in a long-running court case Ergenekon which left its mark in Turkish late history. 9 defendants were given life sentence while 10 were sentenced aggravated life imprisonment. Daily SABAH headlined "Life imprisonment to 19 pro-coup" by publishing that for the first time in the history of Republic, a Chief of General Staff, Ilker Basbug, was sentenced to life imprisonment accused of leadership to terrorist organization and coup plots against the government. Daily AKSAM titled "Crime and Punishment" and said that 13th High Criminal Court of Istanbul sentenced the 275 defendants in accordance with the qualification of their crimes. 

Fenerbahce-Salzburg game

Many Turkish dailies covered Fenerbahce-Salzburg second leg game of the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round on August 6. Daily HABER TURK headlined "Fener's quality is enough to cope with Salzburg" and added Fenerbahce would host Salzburg in the second leg game of Champions League. Daily STAR titled "The Canary (Fenerbahce) play for the tour" by publishing Turkish team would host Austria's Salzburg, which held a 1-1 draw with Fenerbahce in the first leg game of third qualifying round, in Turkey's Sukru Saracoglu Stadium.
