Turkish police arrest 34 in anti-narcotics operations

Anti-narcotics police arrested 34 suspects in Turkey-wide operations Friday, officials said.

In the, police arrested two Iranians and two Afghans over drug trafficking. Three were remanded in custody while the fourth was released.

Officers seized 500 grams of heroin as well as equipment used in preparing the drug, a police officer said on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media.

In nearby Kocaeli province, the governor’s office said 14 suspects were arrested, seven of whom were remanded in custody.

Two raids in Gaziantep, southern Turkey, netted five suspects, including two who were found to have a large quantity of drugs in their car.

The three others were arrested after heroin and morphine was found.

In Sanliurfa province, southeast Turkey, police carried out simultaneous raids at addresses, police said. Five people were arrested for drug trafficking.

Suspects were also arrested in Eskisehir, Kayseri, Van and Kirklareli.
