ISTANBUL (AA) - An Istanbul court re-sentenced prominent Turkish pianist and composer Fazil Say to 10 months in prison, but released him on parole, over his posts on Islam.
The court suspended the sentence handed to Say, releasing him on parole as he has no criminal record.
If the Turkish pianist does not commit a similiar crime within two years, he will not be imprisoned.
The pianist can also appeal the verdict at the High Court of Appeals.
The world-renowned pianist had previously been sentenced to 10 months in prison in April on charges posting tweets poking fun at the Islamic vision of the afterlife and the Muslim call to prayer.
Say denies the charges, saying they were politically-motivated.
Fazil Say had played with the New York Philharmonic and the Berlin Symphony Orchestra, and had also served as a cultural ambassador for the EU.
