SINGAPORE
Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has arrived in Singapore to hold formal talks.
Davutoglu met with Singapore's Parliament Speaker Halimah Yacob following his visit to Brunei where he attended the 46th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Foreign Ministers' meeting.
Davutoglu and Yacop discussed the importance of development of bilateral relations, said diplomatic sources.
Davotoglu said Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan wanted to pay a visit to Singapore in the upcoming period.
Yacop said relations with Turkey were a particular concern to Singapore adding, "Turkey was a role mode for women." Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations between Turkey and Singapore will start soon, Yacop said.
Davutoglu is expected to come together with President Tony Tan Keng Yam, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and his counterpart K Shanmugam during his stay in Singapore.
