Turkey’s Constitutional Court ruled Wednesday that rights of a female headscarved lawyer were violated when she was not allowed into a trial.
A female lawyer filed a case after she was barred from a Supreme Court trial because of her headscarf.
The Constitution Court, composed of 17 judges, ruled 16-1 that the lawyer’s rights had been violated.
The court’s refusal to allow headscarved women into trials violates equality and freedom of religion and is contrary to the Turkish constitution, court's ruling said.
