ANTALYA
A Turkish-flagged cargo vessel sank off coast of Turkey's southern Antalya province on Sunday as the ship's crew was safely evacuated.
Turkey's transport ministry confirmed in a statement that the ship sank after taking on water as 11 seamen aboard the vessel were rescued by a Maltese oil tanker and they were reported to be in good health.
Speaking to the Anadolu Agency, one of the crew members said the captain decided to evacuate the ship immediately after he realized that the ship was taking on water in one of the cargo holds.
The ship was reported to to be sailing from Turkey's northern province of Eregli to the southern port city of Mersin.
