SAKARYA (AA) – The owners of a Turkish caravan factory based in Sakarya had probably not thought that their “caretta” caravans would sell very well when they first designed their mini-caravans after being inspired by Turkey’s famous “caretta caretta” tortoises.

A huge demand from EU countries, UAE, Australia and Japan for caretta caravans overwhelmed the factory that produces these mini-caravans suitable for smaller cars.

Altug Basoglu, a senior administrator of the factory told AA that the caravans could easily be used with its specifications similar to those of the bigger caravans.

Caravan holidays present people more freedom, Basoglu also said.

Caretta caravans are sold for 13 thousand Turkish Liras (approximately 6.5 thousand USD).

Caretta tortoise is an endangered species and it has been under special protection by Turkey since they prefer Turkey's southern coasts for egg laying.
