ANKARA
Turkey's main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu is still working on determining a presidential candidate to put forward in the country’s presidential elections in August.
Turkey is set to vote in presidential elections this August -- the first time that the country’s president will be elected by direct popular vote.
Kilicdaroglu visited Wednesday the Confederation of Turkish Real Trade Unions (Hak Is), where he conferred with the head of the confederation.
"We are not in favour of being in confrontation while determining a president. We want to ensure social compromise," said Kilicdaroglu.
The president of the Confederation of Turkish Real Trade Unions Mahmut Arslan said that they believe in the common sense of people.
Kilicdaroglu also visited the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB).
"After the presidential elections, we expect a peaceful Turkey," said Kilicdaroglu.
Rifat Hisarciklioglu, the head of TOBB, said that discussions regarding a presidential nominee should be focused on principles, not on name.
Candidates for the August 10 presidential election can submit their applications to the country's elections authority from June 29 to July 3.
A candidate will need more than 50 percent of the popular vote to be elected in the first round. If no one receives the required percentage, there will be a second round on August 24 between the two candidates who received the most votes in the first.
